About Project: Camera Release
This project was not my original idea. In the early 2000s I was heavily involved in several mail art communities online, and I had seen similar camera round robin projects taking place. I ended up creating my own version of the project, as I didn't want to wait for one that somebody else created, and I also didn't want to create one on another website with unknown people to have it only go missing in transit. Basically, I didn't want to do it with strangers. Instead, I rounded up a bunch of people I knew who were interested. I drew the names randomly, got everybody's addresses, and the camera was off.
History
This project has been going off and on for 16 years. I started this project in 2007, and it ran continuously until 2010. In 2013 I intended to bring it back but never quite got it started. In 2023, using my last Konica Minolta Black & White C-41 camera, I got it back going again.
Purpose
The purpose is for no other reason then my own, and the photographers involved, amusement. Sending a camera around the world and capturing different shots with the same disposible camera is a fun project. It's a showcase of what people are capable of with limited time and photographic resources.
Materials
One disposible black and white camera, ISO 400
Six to eight interested photographers
A few extra bucks for shipping
How it works
The rules are to take only three (or four, depending on the number of members involved) pictures in under three days and send the camera off again to the next person in line. When it gets back to me, I develop, scan, and post the pictures on this here website.
The Blog
The blog, way back in the dawn of this project, was used for members to update their status. Now it's a place to post updates about the project.
