About Project: Camera Release
I'd like to say that this was an original idea thought up by me, but alas, it was not. After surfing around sites like Nervousness and Phototag.org, I wanted to get in on the action. However, I didn't want to wait around for a camera that may or may not appear, and I didn't want to create one myself on those websites as I didn't trust it not to go mysteriously missing. So, basically, I didn't want to do it with strangers. Instead, I rounded up a bunch of people I knew who were interested. I drew the names randomly, got everybody's addresses, and the camera was off.
Installment #8 is the current project: spots are open.
Purpose
The purpose is for no other reason then my own, and the photographers involved, amusement. The idea of sending a camera around the world and capturing different shots with the same disposible camera is an interesting concept to me. It's a showcase of what people are capable of with limited time and photographic resources.
Materials
One disposible black and white camera, ISO 400
Six to eight interested photographers
A few extra bucks for shipping
How it works
The rules are to take only three (or four, depending on the number of members involved) pictures in under three days and send the camera off again to the next person in line. When it gets back to me, I develop, scan, and post the pictures on this here website. Easy, yes?
The Blog
The blog is used by members of the current project. Posting to the blog is not a rule, so there may be some members that are absent from posting.
The Future
The future for this project is bright. There has been substantial interest, and with an abundance of things to photograph, there is no lack of inspiration for the photographers. This project will run until interest wanes to the point where there are no more participants.
There is a plan in the works to make each installment a different zine, available for purchase with copies of all the photos, as well as other information. I will update as this progresses.
